The jhama, a volcanic foot stone, held in wet hands above a dark basin

The brick by the door.

A jhama is a brick that took too much fire. It leaves the kiln dark, hard, and rough. For generations, families kept a broken piece by the door and used it on the hard skin of their heels, long before anyone sold a foot stone.

This is that idea, honored. Named after the brick, but cut from volcanic rock. One piece, cut by hand. Nothing added, no plastic, no motor.

The soak softens the hard skin. The stone takes it off. Rinse it, hang it by the rope, and one stone lasts years of boots.

Rules of the Stone

The Right Way

Soak first. Warm water, until the hard skin goes soft.

Use it wet. On soaked skin, never dry.

Light circles. Let the stone do the work, not your arm.

Stop when it turns smooth. Weeks, not one night.

Rinse it and hang it by the rope. Let it dry out between uses.

Once or twice a week is plenty.

Don’t

Use it dry. Dry skin tears.

Grind or lean on it. You take off skin you want to keep.

Touch cracked, broken, or bleeding skin, warts, or fungal spots.

Share it. One stone, one person.

One stone. Years of boots.

Heads up

If you have diabetes, poor circulation, or numb feet, talk to your doctor before using a foot stone.

Questions.

Is this just a pumice stone?
It’s the jhama, a volcanic foot stone. One job: take off the hard skin the soak softens. Not a beauty-counter gadget.
Do I need to soak first?
Yes. The soak softens the dead skin. The stone takes it off while it’s soft. On dry skin it barely works, so soften first, then the stone.
How often do I use it?
After a skin soak, while the skin’s still soft. The foot peel does a deeper reset once a month. Rinse the stone and hang it on the rope to dry.
Will it damage my skin?
Not if you let the soak do the softening. Work the thick spots at the heels and edges, stop when it feels smooth, and skip dry or broken skin.
